COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Andrew Allen’s condition improved enough for doctors to operate on his legs and take him off dialysis, his father posted on Facebook Sunday.
Andrew also opened his eyes and moved his finger, his dad said.
"Great progress," Todd Allen said.
Andrew Allen, 18, is the brother of Brody Allen, the 2-year-old who died of cancer last month after his community gave him a Christmas parade. Andrew was critically injured when he was hit by multiple cars while crossing Springdale Road last week.
Allen said Andrew “desperately needed” surgery on his legs.
“Today was the first time they felt it was safe enough to attempt,” Todd Allen said.
"The kidney dialysis machine has been removed and his kidneys are functioning on there (sic) own. All great progress.”
“Andrew's health is holding and improving little by little each day,” his father posted.
“Please keep praying. He is still in very critical condition.”
Allen created a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Andrew's medical expenses.
