CINCINNATI — A 5-year-old boy was shot in Winton Hills on Friday afternoon, according to Cincinnati Police.

A suspect fired 10 shots on the 5000 block of Winneste Avenue during a verbal altercation, police said. One of the shots struck the child, who was nearby.

The child was transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.

Police later arrested Jafonta Walker, 26, in connection with the shooting, and he is charged with two counts of felonious assault, having weapons while under disability and tampering with evidence. A firearm was recovered during the investigation, police said.

Any witnesses or anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at (513) 352-3040, or call Cincinnati Police.

Friday's incident was the second Winton Hills shooting involving a child in less than a month. On Nov. 14, four children were injured in a drive-by shooting on Kings Run Drive. The victims, two boys and two girls between the ages of 12 and 15, were hospitalized in stable condition and were expected to recover. Police are still looking for a suspect in that shooting.
