CINCINNATI -- The Toys "R" Us near Western Hills Plaza is one of 182 stores the company is closing across the country, according to a court document filed Tuesday.
That's nearly one-fifth of the toy store's U.S. locations, according to CNN, which also reports the company declared bankruptcy in September 2017.
It affects the store at 6251 Glenway Ave. in Green Township as well as a location at the Dayton Mall.
"The actions we are taking are necessary to give us the best chance to emerge from our bankruptcy proceedings as a more viable and competitive company that will provide the next level of service and experience you should expect from a market leader," wrote CEO Dave Brandon in an online letter to the public.
The planned store closures will begin in early February with the remainder of the 182 stores closed by mid-April, Brandon wrote. He added that many other locations will be converted into combined Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores.
