Major League Soccer talk raises stakes on property in West End

Posted

CINCINNATI -  Every city has hot neighborhoods, and one that's heating up here, according to some local real estate agents, is the West End.

Its proximity to Over-the-Rhine and Downtown already makes a good selling point, and now the buzz about FC Cincinnati joining Major League Soccer and building its stadium there is making the West End a must-see location.

For one thing, agents tell WCPO that single-family home options are easier to find than in Over-the-Rhine.

Sherri King and her husband have already bought in.

“It's so exciting,” Sherri said as she showed off her home. “This home sat empty for 17 years. Just watching it come back to life and get electric again and plumbing … they don't build it like this anymore.”

And with all the MLS talk, there's been even more interest in the neighborhood.

“A lot of people don't know where West End is, but now with all the publicity it's gonna get because of FCC-MLS expansion talks, more people are saying, ‘I want to check out that area,’” said real estate agent Walt Gibler of Coldwell Banker.

Gibler said they've already seen the price per square foot escalate in a year and that investors from out of town are even taking note.
