CINCINNATI — The trial is set to begin Monday for a man accused of killing a driver who accidentally struck a child in Walnut Hills.
Deonte Baber, 27, is accused of shooting and killing Jamie Urton on March 24, 2017, after Urton had accidentally hit a child with his car on Kenton Street.
Urton had been driving on Kenton Street between Burbank and Wilkinson at about noon when the 4-year-old boy jumped out from behind two cars, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters.
Deters said the collision "was clearly not the driver's fault."
After hitting the child, Urton stopped his car, and Jamal Killings, the 27-year-old father of the child who was struck, admitted to pulling Urton out of his car and beating him in the street before Baber allegedly shot Urton. Killings was charged with murder and felonious assault for the incident.
"It's just outrageous," Deters said. "I'm going to do my best to put him in jail for the rest of his life."
