Tri-State firefighters climb Carew Tower to support American Lung Association

Posted

CINCINNATI -- Heather Garcia thought of her fellow firefighters as she ascended Carew Tower’s 45 floors on Sunday.

Garcia, along with dozens of other Tri-State firefighters, participated in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb to raise money to combat lung disease.

In the 10 minutes it took her to scale the 804 steps, Garcia said her mind was on her fallen comrades who climbed the World Trade Center on 9/11.

“After 9/11 you kind of get a feel for what it’s like for those firefighters that have to climb all those steps, and that’s what I think about when I go up there,” Garcia said. “It gives you a real feel for what the real life scenario is. So it’s an awesome feeling with all these guys out here, girls out here, it’s just a fun event for everyone.”

Florence Fire Department/EMS was one of the top donors in the First Responders Division with $1,483. Colerain Fire Department raised $1,253, and Covington contributed $1,029.
