HEBRON, Ky. -- Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport canceled more than a dozen flights to Boston, New York City and Newark, New Jersey, Wednesday night as the East Coast cities braced for a "bomb cyclone" expected to blanket parts of the country in stunningly cold temperatures and blinding snow.

"This rapidly intensifying East Coast storm will produce strong, damaging winds -- possibly resulting in downed trees, power outages and coastal flooding," according to the National Weather Service.

NJ.com reported more than 3,000 flights had been canceled nationwide in anticipation of the storm. Some airlines, including United, announced they would allow passengers to rebook their flights for free if the storm interrupted their travel plans.
