UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A police officer and Tri-State native was laid to rest Friday.

A hit-and-run driver killed 38-year-old Officer Nicholas Galinger Saturday as he was checking on a road hazard in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Galinger was outside the patrol vehicle when a passing SUV hit him. Janet Hinds turned herself in Monday and has been charged with vehicular homicide.

A police-escort and procession took his body to Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Galinger’s funeral service was at 11 a.m. at Mount Washington Presbyterian Church. Officials transported Galinger’s body to Cincinnati earlier this week.

Galinger was a native of the Greater Cincinnati region and a graduate of Clermont Northeastern High School.

"Being a police officer was a lifelong dream, and that dream has been cut short," said Eric Mace, Galinger's uncle. "He lived for his kids, and he lived to be a police officer."
