You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
Our little boys’ room is quickly coming together, mainly because I’ve been nesting since I found out we were expecting. Regardless of gender, I knew I wanted to tie in a song that I sang to Stella every single day as a baby: You are my sunshine.
The song brought a smile to my face and always calmed her. Yellow, white and gray became the colors for the baby’s room. Once we found out it would be a boy, we added touches of navy.
You make me happy when skies are gray
While the walls are gray, the vibrant pops of yellow really bring cheer to the room. I found a beautiful roll of fabric on clearance and used it to make the yellow and white chevron curtains and bed skirt. Leftover pieces are sprinkled throughout the room.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
It was with love that I made a new mobile for baby No. 2. I had Stella’s owl themed mobile left over so I stripped it down and used the basic shape to get me going. The hoop is now covered in the curtain fabric. And check out those clouds and rain drops! I put those together and sewed them by hand. The felt brings in a different texture and a little weather inspiration to the room.
So please don't take my sunshine away.
The shining jewel of the room are four framed pictures above the changing table. My sister and Stella made those together. The sunshine in the middle is made of Stella’s hand prints.
The final element in the room that needs to go on the wall is our son’s name above his crib. We have a top contender but we are waiting to make it final for now. We probably won’t publicly announce his name until the day he’s born.
