Snow Banks at The Banks to transform Freedom Way into winter wonderland

CINCINNATI — It was a green Christmas for the Tri-State, but snow arrived downtown Friday thanks to some movie magic.

Every weekend in January, Snow Banks at The Banks promises to turn Freedom Way into a winter wonderland with Academy-Award winning snow effects, rides, food and drink and more.

Special-effects expert Dieter Sturm says teams will use block ice and movie-grade snow-making trucks "to actually transform that block ice into real snow" in virtually any weather conditions.

Friday night will see live blizzards each half hour as guests enjoy fire-pit seating, drinks and live sing-alongs hosted by Cincinnati radio stations.

Saturdays and Sundays will feature a 50-foot snow tube ramp at the SkyStar Wheel Snow Park and sledding on Joe Nuxhall Way. You can build your own Frosty at the Snowman Making Village at Great American Ballpark (bring your own magic hat).

All weekend, the event offers signature cocktails and beer, s’mores, and live music as the nearby bars and restaurants convert to cozy "snow lodges."

“There’s a lot to do for families, all for $5,” said event spokesperson Jackie Reau, adding that admission is free on Friday nights.

Snow Banks at the Banks runs Fridays 5 - 9 p.m., Saturdays 12 - 8 p.m and Sundays 12 - 6 p.m.
