CINCINNATI -- The national anthem was the only quiet moment of Thursday night’s matchup between Seton and Mother of Mercy high schools. The rest of the time? Screaming on both sides.
Neither of the West Side girls’ Catholic schools is a powerhouse; neither contends. None of that mattered.
Both schools have nursed a strong rivalry across their scant three-mile separation, and Thursday was the last time the pair will ever meet on the court.
Mother of Mercy will cease to exist when it merges with McAuley High School in time for the 2018-2019 school year. Its players were especially eager to go out on a win and wrap up their West Side bragging rights for good.
They pulled it off. Mercy ended the night on a 44-30 win over Seton and more thundering cheers from both sides of the stands.
