CINCINNATI — Authorities have identified the skeletal remains found in South Fairmount earlier this month.

The remains belonged to 67-year-old Gary Boyd, Cincinnati police said Monday.

Police discovered the remains 17 days ago, on Feb. 2, but they say they think Boyd died a year ago. According to police, he was never reported missing, and was estranged from his family.

Boyd's remains were discovered in a wooded area behind several homes, off the 1600 block of Lionel Avenue, according to the Hamilton County Coroner's office.

Monica McDade, who lives down the street from where the remains were discovered, said she is more concerned about safety in the area now. "I've been here 10 years and it's a pretty good neighborhood, so to hear that, it was not a good feeling," she said.

Investigators are not sure if foul play was a factor in Boyd's death; they say this is why the ongoing investigation is a death investigation and not a homicide investigation.

Police asked anyone with information to call them at 513-352-3542.
