CINCINNATI — Nurse Laura Olexa is head-over-wheels for helping people in need. Using her trusty scooter and a spot in the North Fairmount community garden, she’s spent three years distributing fresh produce to her neighborhood in a project she called Veggies Via Vespa.
“My goal is, anything I grow is more than they have at the corner store,” she said Thursday.
This year, the community reached back to lend her a helping hand. A group of fifth-through-12th graders participating in a camp through Spirit of Construction built a bright yellow shed in her garden, learning construction and carpentry skills in the process.
