CINCINNATI — A couple in their 70s was killed after they were struck by a vehicle in Hyde Park.

The Cincinnati Police Department said Xiaobai She and Si Jue Wan, both 75, were crossing Linwood Avenue at Cryer Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when they were hit by a car.

She was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died. Wan was pronounced dead at the scene while emergency crews attempted to treat her injuries.

"It is a tragic event, and I know pedestrian crashes are a definite concern for the community, and we are going to work to try and determine the cause of this crash and prevent any further crashes," Lt. Brian Norris said.

Police said the driver was wearing his seatbelt, and impairment does not appear to be a factor. Excessive speed has yet to be determined.

"We do have some potential environmental issues...you've got the sun and the glare that we've all been fighting with this morning," Norris said.

Cincinnati police said its traffic unit was conducting an interview with the driver of the vehicle, and Norris said it could take days to determine the cause.

Avid walkers and runners in the area said the crash does cause concern, and they're hoping drivers pay attention and pedestrians pay attention to their surroundings.
