COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A Hamilton County deputy is recovering after his cruiser was struck on I-275.
The crash happened at about 2 a.m. Friday near the Blue Rock Road exit.
Deputy Rylan Babbs, 22, was working a construction detail in the eastbound lanes when his cruiser was hit.
Investigators said Babbs’ cruiser was idling with his emergency lights on when it was hit by a Chrysler LeBaron driven by 27-year-old Travis Robinson II.
Deputies said Robinson didn’t see Babbs’ cruiser and struck the rear end of the vehicle.
Babbs was taken to Mercy Fairfield Hospital and was treated and released.
Robinson was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Babbs was wearing a seat belt at the time but Robinson was not.
Investigators cited alcohol and excessive speed as factors in the crash.
Charges against Robinson are pending.
