CINCINNATI — Posts demeaning the Macy’s Holiday Tree on Fountain Square sprouted like saplings on social media, but the newly spruced-up 65-foot Norway Spruce should appeal to any amorous arborist or casual coveter of conifers.
If the eye test can be tree-lieved, crews working on the evergreen giant got to the root of the problem, so there’ll be no pining for another, and our buoyant-branched beauty shows no signs of junk on its trunk but plenty of bite in its bark.
Monday, 3CDC senior event marketing manager Emily Stowe said a much smaller crew was working on the Macy’s Holiday Tree this year, so it was taking a little longer to get beautified.
She said there are only a certain number of people who are certified to trim the tree and tie up its branches in order to make it look fuller and more fabulous.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the tree will not be lit up during the annual Light Up the Square event in 2020. Instead, there will be a televised and online-only show on Friday, Nov. 27.
