CINCINNATI -- "Thanksgiving dinner" is sometimes a bit of a misnomer: Many American families descend on their annual feasts in the early afternoon, leaving plenty of time for football and food comas after the meal is over.
Some, though, wait until it’s actually dinner time -- whether it’s because of tradition or because they need to do last-minute shopping. Grocery stores in Cincinnati, Newport and Oakley were full of these shoppers Thursday afternoon, all of them hoping to get in, grab their eleventh-hour meal supplies and get out as quickly as possible.
"We’ll probably be back in about half an hour," joked Beth Nyman, who said she had made six Thanksgiving-related trips to the Newport Kroger over the course of the last week.
