Motorists fired up about 'blinding' lights inside Downtown's Lytle Tunnel

CINCINNATI -- Some drivers are getting fired up about the bright new lights inside the Lytle Tunnel on Interstate 71 Downtown.

Those lights were designed to help motorists see the highway better late at night and on early morning commutes, but some argue it’s having the opposite effect.

“You’re better off getting off, taking the street and looping around the street,” said Mike McCoy.

“(My mom) just says that they’re too bright. She has a thing with lights when she’s driving at night and sometimes it can blind her,” said Latoya Elliott. “She doesn't go through the tunnel.”

The Ohio Department of Transportation doesn’t consider the bright lights to be a hazard, but a dimmer system and sensors have been installed. That part of the project won’t be finished for months, though.
