CINCINNATI — Cincinnati fire crews have shut down an area of Queensgate Yard after an overnight train derailment caused a large fuel leak.

Crews responded to the incident around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, finding seven rail cars derailed on top of the CSX RR bridge over Gest Street. Officials said approximately 1,000 gallons of diesel leaked onto Gest Street before crews were able to contain the spill.

CSX said in a statement that the leak came from a locomotive derailed on the overpass, but no leaks or spills came from any of the train cars. No crew members were hurt in the incident, the company said.

The city's sewer district activated the Millcreek Dam as a precautionary measure, preventing the fuel from getting into the Ohio River. A statement from CSX said no waterways were impacted and the fuel spill was contained.

Officials said Gest Street will be shut down between Dalton Avenue and Evans Street for an extended period of time.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation, according to CSX.
