CINCINNATI — Tenants in the iconic Carew Tower won’t lose their electricity Wednesday afternoon despite Duke Energy’s threat to disconnect the building’s power.

Duke Energy spokesperson Sally Thelen confirmed Tuesday night that the disconnection had been canceled but did not provide a reason.

According to Duke’s original statement on Feb. 1, the building — which contains office space, multiple businesses and the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza — had fallen behind on its utility payments despite “numerous attempts to prevent this outcome.”

Building owner Greg Power blamed the past-due bills primarily on the Hilton, which he said had been behind on its own payments due to slow business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
