ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — One family from Brown County is ringing in the New Year in a pretty special way.
Meghan and Kelly Stevens welcomed a baby girl into the world just after midnight Wednesday morning.
Graceleigh Alline Stevens entered the world at 12:01 a.m., making her the first baby of 2020 delivered at Mercy Health Anderson Hospital.
Graceleigh’s mom, Meghan, said she was surprised by her delivery time.
“I didn’t think she would come when she did. I figured she would either be earlier than that or way later.”
Meghan was scheduled to be induced Tuesday morning, but wasn’t sure when she’d actually be able to get into a room at the hospital. Kelly said the scheduled delivery was pushed back multiple times before it was time to go.
The couple said maybe it was meant to be so Graceleigh could help kick off the new decade.
Graceleigh weighed 7 pounds, 9.6 ounces and measured 20 inches long. She is the eighth child for Meghan and Kelly Stevens from Fayetteville. Her parents said she’s a content baby, but that she likes to start crying when she knows her parents are falling asleep.
From her tiny toes up to her first strands of hair, Graceleigh is the New Year’s present her parents were dreaming of.
“It’s just a good way to start off 2020. Like a lot of other people, 2019 was kind of hard and this started off 2020 on a good note,” Kelly said.
