CINCINNATI -- City and healthcare officials will open a new facility in Avondale in an effort to better serve the community.
Ambrose H. Clement Health Center, now located at 3559 Reading Road, is a 19,000 square-foot, full-service healthcare center operated by the Cincinnati Health Department and UC Health.
Services will include adult medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, mental health services, pharmacy, WIC and health insurance enrollment assistance and laboratory services.
The center had been previously located at the corner of Burnet Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive for the last five years.
The new, centralized location is within walking distance for many residents. The expansion allows for more exam rooms and space for nutrition education and parenting classes, which will allow healthcare professionals to serve more people.
Commissioner Melba R. Moore said the idea was to bring the facility closer to Avondale and its surrounding communities.
“This community needs more high-quality care for both kids and adults. We are finding that families are more anxious, more depressed, more sedentary, and less interactive than they were just a decade ago,” Moore said in a statement.
“We see families in despair, hungry, and without their basic needs being met every day. The rate of food insecurity, substance abuse disorder, infant mortality, obesity, depression, suicide and anxiety are growing at alarming rates, and we have to take action to help our community members.”
Dr. Richard P. Lofgren, president and CEO of UC Health, said the facility aims to address health disparities by providing “culturally competent care.”
The Cincinnati Health Department increased overall patient volume to 58,754 in 2018 with over 115,103 visits.
The healthcare professionals working at the facility will be staff members from the health department and UC Health.
The staff will be comprised of:
- Katherine Redman, nurse practitioner, Cincinnati Health Department
- Lauren Gering, nurse practitioner, Cincinnati Health Department
- Dr. William J. Moravec, UC Health Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Dr. Robert Pulliam, UC Health Primary Care/Psychiatry
- Dr. Jackie Collins, UC Health Psychiatry
- Maria Espinola, UC Health Psychiatry
- Stephen Benoit, UC Health Psychiatry
