RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. — The bodies of two international students at Miami University were recovered from Lake Cumberland Monday morning after a days-long search, according to Russell County authorities.
Guan Lian and Yanqi Xing, both 23 years old, were reported missing Friday after swimming in Lake Cumberland near a houseboat with two other women, according to Emergency Management Director H.M. Bottom.
By Monday at 2:15 a.m., both men's bodies had been recovered from the lake near the Low Gap, which Bottom says runs about 130-140 feet deep.
Coroner Mark Coots told WCPO that he is arranging to have the men's bodies returned home to China.
Bottom said search crews from seven agencies, including one in Boone County, assisted with the search.
WCPO 9 has reached out to a Miami University spokesperson for more information.
