CINCINNATI — A 70-year-old man died after spending nearly a week in the hospital after an apartment fire, The Union Township Fire Department said.

On September 23, a fire started in the basement unit of an 8-unit apartment complex in the 700 block of Ohio Pike.

Larry Berry was the only person living in the basement apartment.

He died overnight Thursday at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the Hamilton County coroner said.

Investigators said Berry died from both burns and smoke inhalation.

Multiple people sustained minor injuries while climbing out of windows to escape the fire. They were all treated by medics on the scene.

Multiple residents remain displaced due to the damage.

Investigators have not said if they know how the fire started.
