UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Union Township man was shot to death in a confrontation with police Thursday night. According to township Lt. Anthony Rees, 49-year-old Robert Tincher threatened an officer with a knife and ignored repeated instructions to drop it.
The officer, whose name was not publicized, had been called to Bach Buxton Road around 10:35 in response to a reported disturbance. According to callers, Tincher had been shouting at cars and hitting street signs.
“We also got another call that there was a subject, we believe the same person, inside one of the local businesses creating a disturbance,” Rees said.
Police said the responding officer shot Tincher as a result of a "confrontation."
Tincher was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Union Township police are investigating the shooting and promised a transparency report when their investigation ends.
