BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A man in his 40s was killed in an apartment fire in Batavia Township early Sunday morning, officials said.
Fire crews responded at 1:30 a.m. to the Taylor Crossing Apartments at 4200 Taylor Road, according to a news release from Chief Kevin L. Riley of Central Joint Fire-EMS District.
They found smoke coming from the apartment door and located the victim in the back bedroom, but he could not be revived.
They also found a smoke detector lying on a table with its battery removed.
The fire was confined to the bedroom, according the release.
The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of the family.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
