BATAVIA, Ohio -- "With great sadness," Batavia Police Chief Michael Gardner announced Monday the death of Kraft, his department’s first K-9 officer.
According to a memorial Facebook post, Kraft was struck and killed by a car. He "did one hell of a job," Gardner wrote, leaving behind a partner and a department that would miss him.
“Go and play ball in heaven my buddy,” he wrote.
The department will hold a memorial service for Kraft Saturday morning at 9:30, according to another Facebook post. Members of the public are welcome to attend at 119 West Main St. in Amelia, Ohio.
