NEWPORT, Ky. -- A former U.S. Navy diver had to give up being underwater when he learned he needed a heart transplant.
Despite his heart failure diagnosis, Bruno Lanman wants people to know there is hope for transplant recipients. Lanman, who first started diving at the Newport Aquarium 20 years ago, returned to the water Wednesday morning to dive for the first time since his diagnosis.
Prior to his transplant, Lanman had an LVAD, an artificial device to help his heart pump. He had a heart transplant about two years ago.
“I wouldn’t be here today without an organ donation,” Lanman said.
