NEWPORT, Ky. -- First responders will hold a large training operation in Newport Thursday.
Newport police and firefighters, along with St. Elizabeth Healthcare staff, will conduct the active shooter training at Newport Central Catholic High School from about 5 p.m. to about 10 p.m.
First responders will also be staging in the Newport Shopping Center parking lot south of Gamestop and the Newport Plaza II parking lot west of Aldi as part of the training.
Police said they wanted to get word out that the activity will just be related to a training scenario, and there will be no need for alarm.
"It is our mission to be prepared for any type of situation that we as a community encounter," police said in a news release. "Being that first responder joint training is the optimal way to ensure the safety of our residents and businesses, we appreciate your assistance and understanding."
