DAYTON, Ky. — A second person has died after a fire broke out on a boat in the Manhattan Harbor in Dayton, Ky. Friday afternoon.

One person died at the scene of the fire and another was hospitalized, but the Hamilton County Coroner's Office reported that person died from their injuries on Sunday.

Officials have not yet released the identities of either person killed. The person who was initially hospitalized was pulled from the Ohio River with the help of two local residents.

The boat was located in the harbor, close to other boats as crews sprayed the blaze with hoses from a nearby fire department boat. Officials said hundreds of gallons of fuel leaked into the Ohio River and needed to be remediated.

The harbor was closed for several days while cleanup happened, but officials announced it should reopen Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. As of Tuesday afternoon, two boats damaged in the fire were removed from the water to be transported to "an undisclosed location for further investigations," according to officials.

Crews will continue to clean up debris around the marina, but there is no longer a fuel spill affecting the waterway, officials said.

On Monday, officials said the harbor remains closed while crews continue to clean fuel from the river with absorbent booms and pads.

"The quantity has greatly decreased over the last two days," read a statement issued Monday from Chris Adkins, fire chief with the Fire Department of Bellvue-Dayton. "The boats will be removed when deemed safe."
