CALIFORNIA, Ky. — Campbell County authorities confirmed one person died in a crash involving a vehicle and charter bus on the AA Highway Saturday morning.

The bus carrying Covington Catholic students was heading back to Northern Kentucky from the March for Life rally in Washington, D.C. The driver and only occupant of the second vehicle died in the crash near California Crossroads, according to Campbell County Emergency Management Officer Greg Buckler.

Officials said four people total were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

"It could’ve been a lot worse when you’re dealing with a tour bus, you know, that’s occupied and everything," Buckler said.

It is unclear what caused the crash.

"This morning, a bus carrying students and chaperones home from the March for Life in Washington, DC was involved in an accident. EMT personnel and the Campbell County police have been at the scene and are handling the matter. Please join us in praying for everyone involved in this accident," read a statement from the Diocese of Covington Saturday.

WCPO will update this story when more information becomes available.
