BELLEVUE, Ky. -- A couple and their dog escaped an early-morning house fire unharmed Sunday.
Firefighters with the Bellevue-Dayton Fire Department were called to a home on Berry Avenue near Center Street at about 2 a.m.
Fort Thomas, Southgate and Newport firefighters also helped put out the flames.
The couple's pet snake remained in the home but was expected to survive. The Red Cross was helping the couple and their pets find somewhere to stay while the home is repaired.
No nearby homes were damaged, but a bedridden woman next door was evacuated just to be safe.
Firefighters didn't have an immediate estimate of damage costs.
