BELLEVUE, Ky. -- People have stolen packages from Sara Jacobs' front porch before, she said Wednesday, but she thought her American flag was safe.
No such luck.
Jacobs, who works in trauma and critical care at the University of Cincinnati Hospital, received the flag as a gift from another doctor who had been deployed in Afghanistan.
"It was flown over soldiers who were actually wounded and the soldiers who were actually there, taking care of the wounded warriors," she said. "Their lives are on the line. They are away from their families."
Ten days after she hung it outside her home, it vanished. Jacobs replaced it with a sign scolding the thief and requesting they simply put it back where they found it.
"It was just disrespect," she said. "Not just for me and my house, but for the soldiers and all of us."
