CINCINNATI -- Adrian Angell loves paddleboarding so much that he doesn't just do it for himself, he does it for his niece.

Angell, of West Chester, will paddle across the English Channel next week to raise money for diabetes research.

“My niece is a Type 1 diabetic, and she knows I love to paddleboard, so she suggested, ‘Hey, why don’t you paddleboard across the English Channel and raise money for diabetes research,’” Angell said.

The English Channel, the waterway between England and France, is about 21 miles across. But Angell is no stranger to paddling channels; he will paddle from Dungeness in England to Boulogne in France, and he’ll select the day with the best weather conditions before he embarks.

“I’ve done a couple of channel crossings before,” Angell said. “I paddled from Maui to Molokai in Hawaii, which was a 27 mile paddle.”

So far, Angell has raised almost $2,000. He hopes to double that by the time his expedition is complete.
