Undercover officers from the Butler County Undercover Regional Taskforce confiscated THC vape cartidges, a plethora of drugs and $2,723 cash which was all being shipped through the United States Postal Service.
The taskforce conducted a joint investigation with the United States Parcel Inspectors which led to the seizure of ail parcels scheduled to be delivered to Hamilton and Oxford areas.
Officers seized, in total, 952 vape cartridges containing THC, the principal psychoactive component of marijuana, about seven pounds of marijuana, hasish wax and large amounts of THC infused items, such as Tootsie Rolls, lip balm, gummies and cannabis syrup. The estimated street value of these products is $65,000.
The Drug Enforcement Agency has said there are no deaths related to marijuana overdose, but there is a suspected link between THC vape cartridges and recent e-cigarette related illnesses and deaths.
The Centers for Disease and Control noted there have been some nicotine e-cigarette based illnesses, the majority of the illnesses are among smokers who use THC vape products, such as those seized by the taskforce in Butler County.
The investigation into the items seized in Butler County is ongoing. Deputies have not arrested or charged anyone at this time, but that might change pending laboratory analysis of the items.
