Edgewood High student charged after threat written in bathroom

Posted

TRENTON, Ohio -- Butler County deputies arrested a 16-year-old accused of writing a threat in a bathroom stall at Edgewood High School Friday.

The teen, a junior at the school, wrote "This school will be burned to the ground today at 1245. Soon we will all die!!!," the Butler County Sheriff's Office announced.

There was a temporary lockdown at the school. Detectives soon identified a suspect. The boy was arrested and brought to the juvenile detention center on a felony charge of making terroristic threats.

Authorities did not identify the juvenile suspect.

"We have to take these things serious," Sheriff Richard Jones said in a written statement. "He told the detectives that it was just a prank, but we can't just let statements like this go and no one finds this humorous. I encourage parents to talk to their children about making threats or accusations of harm to schools and other students because there will be consequences."
