HAMILTON, Ohio — Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones announced Wednesday that the owner of an emaciated dog found in Hamilton, Ohio has been located and charged with animal cruelty.

Police said the dog, Lucy, has severe diabetes and was hospitalized over the weekend as vets worked to get her numbers back to a normal level.

Lucy's owner has been identified as Christina Sharp, of Hamilton. She has been charged with cruelty to a companion animal, failure to license and failure to confine.

"Lucy's condition after being cared for is like night and day, not only physically but you can see she is happier," said Sheriff Jones in a press release. "She will continue to get the care she needs. We will not tolerate this treatment towards animals in this county."

Lucy was found, emaciated and malnourished, on Knightsbridge Drive in Hamilton last week.
