BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio — A New Miami firefighter is in "very bad shape" after he was hit by a drunk driver, according to the department's Facebook.

In a post on Facebook, the New Miami Fire Department said firefighter Dustin Cook was struck by a drunk driver Saturday.

The post said Cook had his spleen removed and was placed on a ventilator.

According to an update from the department, Cook is still on the ventilator as of Sunday and has entered surgery to fix his two broken legs.

Details about the crash have not yet been made available.

The New Miami Fire Department will hold a Fill The Boot fundraiser this coming Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit Cook. They will collect donations on Rte. 127 in front of the firehouse and on Seven Mile Avenue and Augspurger Avenue at the traffic light.

For questions about making donations, contact Assistant Chief Tim Trent.

WCPO will update this story as more information becomes available.
