Saturday morning crash in Middletown left one person dead

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — A two-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Middletown, Ohio left one person dead and one other with life-threatening injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Roger Lohman, 78, was driving his SUV west on Manchester Road around 8:20 a.m., when 28-year-old Ladarius Hawkins, driving his car north on Dixie Highway, failed to yield at a red light and struck Lohman's SUV.

Hawkins' car stopped in the road after the crash, but Lohman's SUV went off the side of the road and into a ditch. Lohman was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Lohman's vehicle had life-threatening injuries and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Hawkins was not injured in the crash.

Hawkins was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under suspension, OVI and drug abuse, according to Middletown police. He is being held in the Middletown City Jail.
