HAMILTON, Ohio — Plush Cut Barber Shop was packed with around a dozen Hamilton students Tuesday night as part of the non-profit youth organization Hamilton Young People Empowered, or “HYPE.”
The goal: to give the kids a free haircut, a book and a chance to talk with Black leaders in the community.
Shop owner Ra-Shawn Jarrett said he’s glad to be able to lend a helping hand.
“To be able to catch them at this age, let them know if they have any questions, need guidance, peer pressures. They can come here and sit and talk, get some chair time,” Jarrett said.
Pastor Shaq Mathews, HYPE’s CEO and founder, said the event aimed to help guide children, share conversations and share stories.
“If a child is going down the wrong path, to help guide them on the right path,” Mathews said.
