HAMILTON, Ohio -- Firefighters rescued two adults and two children from a "suspicious fire" in a two-story apartment building Friday morning, Deputy Chief Jeff Shaw said.
Crews rescued a man, a woman and two children from a fire at about 2:30 a.m. Friday at 125 N C St.
Firefighters got them out of their second floor apartments through a back window, Shaw said. First responders transported the woman and two children to a hospital for suspected smoke inhalation, and crews evaluated the man at the scene.
The mother said she jumped on top of her 3-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter when she saw flames upstairs. She said she thought they were trapped.
Shaw said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire investigators were on scene Friday morning.
“The fire appears to have started outside and made its way inside, which is highly unusual, especially at 2:30 a.m.,” Shaw said.
Two men living on the first floor made it out OK, Shaw said. Firefighters also rescued three dogs and a cat.
