UNION, Ky. — A 23-year-old man has died of his injuries Wednesday following a three-vehicle crash in Union, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 6:04 p.m. Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of US-42 and Fowlers Lane.

A Nissan Pathfinder traveling southbound on US-42 attempted a left turn into a Kroger parking lot. When the driver realized the entrance was closed, police said he tried to make an "improper right turn" to Fowlers Lane while traveling across the straight southbound lanes of US-42.

When the Pathfinder turned right onto Fowlers Lane, it struck a motorcycle traveling southbound on US-42 before skidding and striking a Lincoln MKC that was sitting at the traffic light, according to police.

The motorcyclist, Jacob Trapp of Burlington, was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Florence, where he was pronounced deceased. No one else was injured in the crash.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Alcohol and drug impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash. Police said speed on behalf of the motorcycle may be considered a factor based upon "multiple eyewitness accounts."

No charges have been filed at this time, and police said all parties are cooperating in the investigation.

The road, which had been closed for the investigation, has since reopened.
