BOONE COUNTY, Ky. -- A man was killed and his sister was injured in a crash that closed both directions of Interstate 71 on Tuesday morning.

Seth McClurg, 24, and Hannah McClurg, 27, were headed south on I-71 when their pickup truck's wheels went into the left shoulder, according to the Boone County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Tom Scheben.

The driver overcorrected, slid across the road and hit a guardrail, Scheben said. The truck went airborne over the guardrail and down an embankment.

Traffic was blocked from getting on southbound I-71 from southbound I-71/75.

Seth McClurg was thrown from the truck and died at the scene.

Hannah McClurg climbed back up the hill and got help from passersby. A medical helicopter took her to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

The interstate was closed while the helicopter responded to pick her up.

One lane in each direction reopened before noon. However, police also blocked the ramp from southbound I-71/75 to southbound I-71 until about 12:30 p.m.

A backup stretched for miles, to the Richwood exit.

The sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
