VILLA HILLS, Ky. – The body of a rape suspect who jumped into the Ohio River as police closed in on him was recovered Friday afternoon, the Villa Hills police chief told WCPO.
Chief Bryan Allen confirmed that the body was Robert J. Kasee. The body was found among some boats at the Villa Hills Marina, the chief said. The body will be sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
Kasee, also wanted in Ohio for felonious assault and sexual battery, was being tracked by a Ludlow K-9 unit in the 800 block of Elm about 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to news release from Cincinnati police. Police from Cincinnati and Villa Hills also were trying to locate him.
Officers saw Kasee go underwater but he did not resurface. Agencies from both sides of the river engaged in a lengthy search and rescue operation, police said.
Kasee was presumed dead, Cincinnati police announced Thursday.
Cincinnati police is conducting an admininstrative review of the incident and coordinating with Kentucky agencies involved, according to the release. Kasee's family and the alleged victims have been notified.
