FLORENCE, Ky. -- One driver was killed and two others suffered critical injuries in a three-vehicle crash Saturday night.

Alcohol and speed are suspected as factors, according to Maj. Tom Scheben of the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

Maxwell Detzel, 22, was headed north on Dixie Highway and crossed into the southbound lanes near Totten Lane, Scheben said.

Detzel's Chevrolet Camaro hit a Dodge Magnum headed south on Dixie, Scheben said. Ernest Wright, 39, was driving the Magnum.

Detzel's car also hit a Honda Civic headed south on Dixie. Joshua Ray, 26, was driving the Civic. Florence paramedics pronounced Ray dead at the scene.

A medical helicopter took Detzel and Wright to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

No charges have been filed. None of the drivers was wearing a seat belt, Scheben said.

The sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
