HEBRON KY. — The Boone County Sheriff's Office wants to set the record straight after social media speculation surrounding a video of two deputies hauling large bags of mail out of a Hebron woodline.

The weekend following Election Day, the video of deputies carrying the bags of mail led some online commenters to guess that police were collecting lost ballots.

But the sheriff's office says that's false. On Nov. 7, authorities had been notified of discarded packages found on North Bend Road.

"It was reported that several large bags filled with what appeared to be Amazon packages were located and were torn and/or had been opened," read a statement from the BCSO.

After examining the contents of the five bags recovered, deputies confirmed they contained opened Amazon packages.

"Additionally, a representative from Amazon responded to the scene and confirmed that the recovered packages came from one of their local facilities," the statement read.

After deputies concluded their investigation, they returned the property to the Amazon facility, according to the statement.
