BOONE COUNTY, Ky. -- A driver died in an early morning crash Friday, according to Lt. Philip Ridgell.
Joseph Sohmer, 36, was driving a 2008 Jaguar S-type when he ran a red light at the intersection of Burlington Pike and Aero Parkway at about 2:21 a.m., Ridgell said. Sohmer drove into the side of 53-year-old Stanley Prather’s 2007 Volvo semitrailer. Sohmer’s car traveled underneath the semi and stopped in an embankment.
Sohmer was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities said. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash. No one has been charged in the crash.
Authorities reopened the intersection at about 4:35 a.m.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation. Any witnesses should call the Boone County Sheriff’s Department at 859-334-2175.
