UNION, Ky. -- Four people were transported to hospitals Saturday after a wreck on U.S. Route 42 in Boone County.
At least one of the vehicles was overturned. Medical helicopters took two of the victims to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
According to Rumpke spokeswoman Amanda Pratt, a vehicle headed northbound tried to pass another vehicle also going north at about noon. There was a crash, and one of those vehicles was pushed into the front of a garbage truck headed southbound.
The road was closed near Bleu Yacht Lane while the Boone County Sheriff's Department, city of Union and city of Walton worked to clear the crash.
The Rumpke driver was not injured.
"We are very glad our driver was not injured during today’s accident, but our hearts remain heavy for those who were hurt. We are keeping them in our prayers," said Bridgett Biggs, area safety manager at Rumpke Waste & Recycling. "I also want to thank the first responders, they arrived quickly, transported the injured and are working now to conduct a thorough investigation."
