BRATTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — One man is dead after a twin-engine plane crashed in Adams County Monday afternoon, Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a release.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a 1960 twin-engine Cessna 310D crashed in a wooded area at approximately 3:08 p.m. near a property in the 2100 block of Savage Road in Barton Township.
Only the pilot was on board, the FAA confirmed. The pilot was identified as Robert Harris Coles, 46, of Vicksburg, Mich. Coles suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Adams County Coroner, the official release reads.
“It’s a tragedy," Ryan Enders, an NTSB aviation accident investigator, told WCPO Tuesday while out on the scene. "We’re here to investigate a tragedy.”
The Georgetown Post of the OSHP is investigating the crash and the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were notified. They will send a representative to the scene to aid with the investigation.
This story will be updated with more information when it is available.
"The engine manufacturer, the engine, and the airframe manufacturer, the FAA is here. It’s business as usual, even with the holiday," Enders said. "If anybody had seen this. If they saw the plane flying overhead, if they happen to have any video, even if the video does not have the airplane in it, if it has sound, we are definitely interested in that.”
