5 dead after floodwaters swept 2 vehicles off roadway in Franklin County, Indiana

FRANKLIN CO., IN — Five people are dead, and one person is presumed missing after floodwaters swept two vehicles off of the road in Franklin County on Friday morning.

At 5 a.m. on Friday, Franklin County authorities received a call from a witness who reported hearing cries for help and saw headlights off the roadway, near the intersection of Sanes Creek and Tee Hill roads.

When responding authorities arrived, they discovered the bridge over Sane Creek had been partially washed away.

Officials found two vehicles during the search for possible rescues, according to the DNR.

Responders recovered five deceased victims. The Franklin County Police Department and Fire Department are still looking for the other person who they believe to be missing due to this incident.

Due to the nighttime darkness, the search operation has been suspended Friday, according to DNR. The search will resume on Saturday.

The victims' identities have not been released at this time.
